Abstract
11,726. Merrill, N. C. May 11. Cabinet bedsteads.-An arrangement for assisting the raising of a folding bed or the like 20 into the vertical position, comprises a spring 46, secured to a board 50 extending across the outer end of the bed, and a cord 42, which passes over two pulleys or cord supports 34, 38 on the inner end of the bed in such a manner that, as the bed is raised, the cord leaves one of the pulleys, as shown in Fig. 3, and the action of the spring is reversed as the bed approaches the vertical position, so as to prevent slamming. The end of the cord 42 passes round a curved fixed plate 60 and through a s'ot 64, whereby it can be brought into alinement, andis secured to a block 52 by a staple 54 so thit its length can be adjusted. The board 50 takes the blow of the spring in the event of a fracture. The bed is shown as mounted on a door 10, on the other side of which a wardrobe &c. may be arranged.
