Abstract

Work - supports. -A work-support or jack for supporting boots &c. during the tacking operation in lasting is mounted for rotary movement, and has operating - mechanism actuated by the attendant for turning the work - support in either direction to present one or the other side of the boot thereon directly or at any desired angle to the operator. The jack, which comprises an adjustable toe - post 26 and a last - supporting pin 31 on a spring-held bellcrank 30, is mounted on a base 23 clamped to a pin 21 connected through a universal joint 18 to a jackoperating rod 6. The base 23 rests on the upper surface of a jack carrier 13, of approximately spherical shape at its lower end, which fits a socket 9, in which it can be clamped in any position by screws 12. The socket 9 is formed in a sleeve 5 clamped in a bracket on the frame by a bolt 4. A bevel-wheel 35 is splined to the jack-operating rod 6, and gears with a rack 4, 41 on an arm 39, which is moved to one side or another by depressing one or another of two treadles.
