Paper bags, making. -In a machine for making paper bags of the kind shown in Fig. 21, a web of paper H, Figs. 3, 4 and 15, passes beneath a paste roller 27 by means of which a strip D, Fig. 15, of paste is applied to its edge. The paper next passes beneath a creasing-roll 29 which scores it along the edges of the cut-out I, and the pieces I are torn from the web by pins which project from the lower roll 28. Disks 56<a> next score the web along the lines L, and the flaps C, B are then folded over one on the other by twisted blade folders 63, 67, the paste D securing these flaps together. The paper next passes round a roller 71 having a gripping-slot into which the paper is tucked by a blade mounted on a roll 80. This forms the bottom fold N, the flap E being pressed by another roll 85 against a line F of paste which has previously been deposited on the paper by means of a gum roll 102. The roll 80 also carries a scoring-blade which forms the fold at the base of the closing-flap, and a knife which cuts off the bag along the line M. A swinging arm projects across the roller 71 and detaches the envelopes when they are released by the gripper.
