Abstract
7819. Evans, S. L., and Baillie, C. J. Innes-. March 31. Processes and materials for treating hides and skins; electric tanning.-The hides are prepared by treatment with a solution of an arsenic compound, with or without plain liming, or treatment with sodium sulphide in the lime pits. They are delimed by boracic, formic, or lactic acids, or by sugar or glucose, and are suspended in a weak tanning-liquor so as to move slowly therein. They are then transferred to a sharper liquor containing boracic acid, saltpetre, and common salt in stated proportions, and are kept slowly moving in the bath, which is intermittently traversed by a weak electric current.
