Abstract

7631. Johnson, J. Y., [Badische Anilin & Soda Fabrik]. March 29. Nitroanthraquinone carboxylic acids in which the nitro and carboxylic acid group are adjacent to one another in the anthraquinone nucleus are produced by treating the corresponding o-nitromethylanthraquinones with oxidizing-agents such as chromic acid, in presence of nitric acid. In an example, 1- nitroanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid is produced. The nitro compounds give on reduction the corresponding aminoanthraquinone carboxylic acids.
