Abstract

7003. Smith, W. T. March 21. Moistening rovings in spinning - machines. Cotton or wool roving is subjected to the action of steam while passing from the creel to the drawing-rollers of a spinning-machine by being passed through a lagged vessel A through which hot water or steam is circulated by means of a pipe H, a baffle-plate D being provided to prevent the contact of the roving with the water. When the stop-rod of the machine is operated, a rod secured thereto shuts the inlet valve and opens the outlet valve of the steam or hot-water service. Instead of circulating hot water, water in the trough may be heated by a steam-pipe.
