Abstract

5076. Harling, J., and Harling, R. March 1. Weft-replenishing mechanism.-When the weft-fork or feeler mechanism is operated, the knocking-off handle causes the driving-strap to be moved on to the loose pulley, and a lug r on a lever s, Fig. 3, actuated from the knocking- off handle, moves axially a grooved pulley. An inclined part on this pulley then rocks a lever, which is mounted on a loose boss and is connected by a stud to a pawl mounted on the loose pulley, the pawl being thus moved into engagement with a ratchet-wheel fast on a sleeve carrying a spur-gear f. This gear, which is thus driven from the loose pulley, drives a wheel v. The wheel actuates pirn or cop changing mechanism, and afterwards, by means of a bowl 11, actuates a nose 12 on a bar or lever 13 linked to a lever 15, which re-starts the loom. The wheel v is normally prevented from moving by the engagement of a spring-actuated hook 21 with a stop-pin 22. The hook 21 is carried on one arm of a catchlever 19, adjustably connected to the usual brake-lever 16, which is provided with a rod 17 terminating in a catch engaging the usual weftfork lever, so that, when this lever is moved, the brake-lever is free to turn and release the hook 21 from the stop-pin 22. The brake is arranged to stop the loom at back centre. When the wheel v is rotated, a crank y connected by a link z to a lever 1 on a shaft 2, Figs. 3 and 4, causes a carrier-lever 24 on this shaft to be moved to the left, a nose 39 engaging a pin 38 on an eccentric 36 on a shaft 33 carrying another eccentric 34. The eccentrics are thus rocked against the action of a spring 37 so as to release the bottom pirn from the magazine 31, which has an opening through which the pirn tips project, the bottom pirn entering the pirncarrier 25 where it is temporarily supported by a bolt acted upon by a spring 50. A bowl 3 of the wheel v then actuates a lever 5 connected by a strap to an arm 8 on a shaft 9 provided with an arm 10, which strikes an adjustable pin or stud 64 on an arm 59, to which a rod 57 is adjustably connected. This rod is connected by a chain to an eccentric 52 on a square shaft 51, which is thus rocked against spring action, and a striker 56 is actuated to feed the fresh pirn into the shuttle and eject the empty pirn into a shoot 67. During the forward movement of the lever 24, a bowl 47 actuates a pendent lever carrying a pawl, which rotates a ratchet-wheel on a shaft carrying one of two pulleys over which a strap provided with hooks for the weft ends passes. To prevent breakage of the loom, if it should be stopped with the lay not quite at back centre, the arm 1 is made in two parts jointed together and connected by a spring.
