Abstract
3361. Williams, O. R., and Stevenson, J. Feb. 11. Sustaining at limit of wind.-Relates to devices for suspending arc lamps &c. in which contacts F<1>, F<2>, F<3>, F<4> are arranged on movable and fixed plates D, E, the lower plate D being guided by a pin on a rod K attached thereto and to the cable W entering a slot in a tubular member H, and consists of a particular arrangement of suspending-device of the kind in which a pin S<1> attached to the lower-plate co-operates with a guide P arranged above the suspending- hook L so that the pin passes along the other side of the hook when the lamp is lowered to that against which it abuts when the lamp is raised. The hook L and guide P are formed as projections on plates M fitted on the square boss of the plate E. The pin S<1> is carried by a lever N pivoted to the boss of the lower plate D, the movement of the lever being restrained by a spring arranged in the pivot and limited by a stop V entering a notch. When the lamp is raised, the pin S' rides up the right-hand side of the hook L until the tail-piece N' engages a projection R. On lowering the lamp, it then rests upon the hook L. When the lamp is raised again, the pin engages the guide P, and the lever N is turned to the left so that the pin S<1> is free of the hook L when the lamp is lowered.
