Abstract

29,812. Zur Nedden, H. Dec. 21. Presses, mechanical.-The rocking bed of a press for colour - embossing, blocking, or embossing cardboard, metal plates, leather, &c., and in particular for work where a very heavy pressure is required, is raised by cams and toggle - levers &c. and impressed upon the work by means consisting of wedges or projections on the moving parts, which means come into operation only when the bed has descended close to the fixed table, being rendered inoperative should the hands be in the way and make possible stopping of the bed in its highest position for several inkings to be given without necessitating stopping of the whole machine. The frame a with stationary bed b has slots shaped, as shown, to serve as guides for the pins d, e on the movable bed c, which is raised by means of draw rods f, toggles g, h and a rod i from the cam k, and descends by its own weight. A wedge-shaped projection l is provided on the rod i, and is engaged by a similar projection m on the gear-wheel at each revolution thereof to give a final heavy pressure on the bed c except when the bed is held up or prevented from descending far enough by the operator's band on the table, in which case the wedge m would pass to the right of the wedge l, and any pressure on the latter would serve to raise the bed c and release the hand. In a modification for a cranklever press as shown in Fig. 3, the wedge on the gear-wheel is replaced by a wedge fixed to the frame ; and in a further modification, shown in Fig. 4, the wedge arrangement is replaced by a small arm o adapted to engage a pin p for giving the heavy pressure.
