Turf-cutting machines. - In a turf-cutting machine, the horizontal blade c is integral with, or rigidly connected at each end to, one of a pair of rearwardly inclined vertical cutters d, d<1> adjustable in a frame a, so that the blade has a downward dip from the rear to the cutting- edge, and is diagonally disposed to the line of cut. The frame is mounted on runners c and at the rear is provided with wheels b mounted on sliding rods f the upper ends of which engage pivoted handles g by which the cutters are raised clear of the ground. A pivoted guideplate is mounted upon each side of the frame, one or the other plate engaging the scoring previously made in cutting the adjacent piece of turf. The plates are adjustable by the engagement of their forward ends with a clamp-nut k. Adjustable wheels, which may be loosely mounted or have side-play, may be substituted for the front runners c; and the knife c may be carried independently of the cutters d, d<1>. According to the Provisional Specification, a pair of vertical adjustable cutters may be carried between the front pair of wheels, and the knifeblade e may be constituted by an horizontal rotary or oscillating cutter or fixed or mechanically-operated wires or cutting-bands.
