Resistances. - Longitudinally-corrugated strips mounted in straight lengths between a pair of rods have flat portions which can be clamped between flat washers. In the form shown, a long metal strip is folded into straight corrugated lengths a, and the folds c, d are threaded with metal washers h and insulating washers i on two metal rods g, k surrounded by insulating sleeves; the folds d being formed with elongated slots or with forks, and left free to slide on the rod k, which is provided with insulating-washers n only. The rods g, k may be connected by two strips o, or by the two outside lengths a. The rod g may be fixed to a support, or both rods may be fixed, transverse corrugations a<2> being then provided to allow for expansion. In a modification, the continuous strip may be replaced by a number of U-shaped elements connected in series ; and sets of metal washers with or without insulating-washers may be used instead of single washers. In another modification, a number of narrow strips are arranged in pairs side by side, each strip having notches to receive the rods, the strips being connected in series by displacing the lower ends of each pair relatively to each other. Projections may be provided in the notches to engage with the holes of the washers and prevent the strips from slipping off the rods.
