Abstract
27,812. Adamson, R. A. Nov. 29. [Cognate Application, 12,340/10.] Cleaning internally, rotary appliances for.-Relates to apparatus for cleaning watermains, drains, &c. in situ. A carriage comprising end plates 6 and distance-pieces 7, 8, 9 carries a petrol motor 10, which drives a shaft 2 through a clutch and suitable gearing. The carriage moves backwards and forwards on rails 5, which are secured to the exposed ends of the pipe 23 by clamps 20 with jaws 25. The carriage is moved by hand-wheels 18 working along a screwed rod 19, which passes freely through holes in the plates 6 and is secured in slots 21 of the clamps 20 by nuts 22. The rod 19 may be replaced by a rack not shown engaged by a pinion with hand-wheel, mounted on the carriage. In a modification, the rails 5 rest on sleepers in the trench bottom, and arched end bars, bridging over the exposed pipe ends carry the rod 19 or rack. Cleaning-tools may be coupled to both ends of the shaft 2, additional rod sections being introduced at opposite sides of the machine alternately, so that there is no idle stroke.
