Mechanically operated from vehicle; spring control; point tongues, construction of.-In railway points of the class that are connected to a movable arm adapted to be operated mechanically from the vehicles, one of the tongues is formed with side teeth adapted to fit corresponding recesses in the stock rail, and the movable arm is provided with a spring retaining-device. The rod 13 is rigidly attached to a wedge-shaped arm 9, pivoted at 8 and adapted to be moved transversely by rollers 39, 40 carried by the vehicles. The arm 9 is also connected at its free end to the other tongue 6 by a pin-and-slot connexion. The tongue 6 is provided with side teeth 6<b>, adapted to engage corresponding recesses in the stock rail 4 to hold the tongue rigidly in position. The arm 9 is also provided at its free end with a spring-pressed nose 9<a>, Fig. 2, adapted to engage the edge of the web of the stock rail and thus ensure the engagement of the teeth on the tongue with the recesses in the stock rail.
