Abstract

23,995. Johansen, J. C. Oct. 19. Massage and vibratory treatment.-A massage appliance for producing a rubbing or a tapping action comprises a casing 1 enclosing a driving- shaft 5, which is connected by an adjustable eccentric disk to a parallel rocking shaft 19 carrying the applicator 28. The eccentric disk 13 is connected to the shaft 19 by means of a rod 20, and sleeve 22, and is eccentrically pivoted to a disk 9 on the shaft 5. A cover 14, rotatably mounted on the disk 9, has a cam-groove 15, in which works a pin 13<b> on the disk 13, so that, on turning the cover 14 while the shaft 5 is held stationary by means of a nut 8, the eccentricity of the disk 13 and the rocking of the shaft 19 are varied. The stem 27 of the applicator 28 is held in a socket 24 on the shaft 19 by means of an L-shaped spring 26 and a wedge-and-slot device ; it may be longitudinally adjustable in the socket 24, and may be fixed in a perforation in the shaft 19 instead of in the socket. When a tapping action is required, the stem of the applicator is bent, and a protector for the applicator may be mounted on the bearings 23. The shaft 19 may have holes or securing - means in different directions to receive tool stems at different angles.
