Abstract

23,226. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General Electric Co.]. Oct. 11. Anemometers.-An improved Pitot tube for fluid-meters comprises one tube with a plurality of orifices facing the flowing fluid, and a second tube with one or more orifices facing in the opposite direction. The main 3 is screwed to receive a plug 4 provided with a head 5 having screwed openings 6, 7 to receive the pipes which connect the plug with the motor proper. The head 5 has pins 8, which serve to condense any steam that may get into the passages. A thin tube 9, brazed into the plug, has a number of orifices 10, the pressures of the fluid entering these orifices being equalized in the chamber 14. The end of the tube is closed by the disk 11, which has an axial opening 12 and a radial opening 13, which act as a dam and ensure a constant water level on the plug. Inside the tube 9 is a concentric tube 15, which communicates with an orifice 18 facing in the direction of the flowing fluid and constitutes the low-pressure part of the system. The tube is shown in Fig. 3 coupled to a motor comprising a tilted member 26, to which are attached mercury-containing vessels 27, 28. Attached to the member 26 is an arm 31 moving over a calibrated scale 32.
