Abstract

22,485. Lamotte, E. V. Oct. 2. Locking nuts. - A nut 3 for the axles of vehicle wheels, rail joints, &c. has a slotted cylindrical extension 4, and is locked by a tongue 7 on a washer 6 projecting through one of the slots 5 into a groove 2 in the axle or bolt. A second washer 9 has a bent spring tongue 11 which projects into the groove 2 and also engages notches 12 in the edge of a cap 8, which is screwed on to the cylindrical part 4 of the nut 3. The notches 12 are bevelled on one side so that the cap may be screwed up, but is prevented by the tongue 11 from unscrewing. The washer 9 may be omitted, the spring tongue being formed on the tongue 7. A washer 14 has a detachable section 15, Fig. 3, formed with lugs 16 engaging recesses 17 in the washer.
