Drying yarns in long lengths.-Comprises a form of drying-apparatus for sized warps in which the warps pass round a rotary drum heated by steam-pipes, within a casing heated in like manner, under a forced draught created by fans within the chamber. The apparatus is particularly applicable for drying woollen warps without causing them to felt. Two warp layers which pass from sizing-vessels 3, 4 over rollers 5, travel over a coil of steam-pipes 8 and then over rollers 9, 10 provided with short radial projections 12. Fans 13 within the rollers accelerate the drying; and steel wire brushes 16 mounted on the end of adjustable elastic blades 18 remove surplus size from the projections. The warp layers then come together and pass round a large drum 21 provided with similar projections for diminishing the adherence of the threads. The drum is mounted on ball bearings on a fixed shaft 30 and is rotated by the passage of the warps. Within the drum is a closed stationary drum 35 forming a support for a steam heating-coil 39. The steam is supplied to, and discharged from, the coil by way of ducts in the shaft 30. The casing 48 is provided with double walls, whereby the hot air and moisture are caused by a fan 51 to circulate round the apparatus, and form a hot jacket, before being discharged at the top. Valves 61, 53 permit an excess of hot air &c. to be discharged directly through the exit. Fans 55, 56, and 57 are provided for agitating the hot saturated air. A partition 58, located adjacent to the outlet for the sized warps, is also provided with a brush for keeping clean the projections of the large drum.
