Abstract
19,207. Boult, A. J., [Automatic Press Feeder Co.]. Aug. 20. Feeding sheets ; delivery apparatus. -A platen press is fitted with means for automatically feeding and delivering sheets. The mechanism may be built as an attachment particularly adapted for a Gordon press. The sheets are fed from a belt by a buckling oscillating roller in the manner described in Specification 11,180/10, and the buckled sheet is deflected by a cam-actuated finger 40, Fig. 4, to feed-rollers 54, 55 ; a guide 60 directs the sheet to rollers 56, 57 which forward it to tapes 61 in line with the platen 2. The tapes 61 feed the sheet to registering-stops 145, which register the sheet longitudinally, and which are moved from the paper by rods 148 against the action of springs 150 by a cam-actuated bell-crank 151. As the sheets are moved by the tapes 61, they are acted on by a stop mechanism of the kind described in Specification 11,181/10, [Class 100(ii), Printing processes &c.]. The sheet is taken from the stops 145 by a sliding carrier 155, Figs. 3 and 6, carried by arms 156, which are integral with, or connected to, racks 204, Figs. 3 and 4, moving in guides 157 and reciprocated to an extent adjustable by means of screw stops 205. The racks 204 are reciprocated by gears 203, 201, 200 actuated by a vertically reciprocating rack 198, operated by a link 194 and a crank 193 on the shaft 48. The rack 198 is connected to the link 194 by an adjustable flexible connexion. The The carriage 155 is provided with a spring-pressed upper gripping member, which is opened to receive the sheets by a cam 186, Figs. 3 and 4, acting on studs 187, Fig. 3, on the grippers, and registering- pins 162 are provided on the grippers. The sheets are prevented from adhering to the type bed by means of adjustable frisket fingers 164, Fig. 4, carried by arms on a hollow shaft 166 freely mounted on a shaft 166<a>, which is mounted so as to be moved by a parallel-rule motion by links 169, 170, 171, operated by an arm 174, link 175, lever 176, and a cam on the shaft 48. In addition to the parallel motion of the shaft 166<a>, the fingers 164 are turned about the shaft by a cam-operated plunger 179 which acts on an adjustable spring- controlled bell-crank 167 on the shaft 166. As the carriage 155 carries the sheet from the platen, projections 188 deflect the sheet into the bite of delivery bands 189, 190. When the device is an attachment to a Gordon press, it is connected to a frame 206 by parallel links 209, secured by a bolt 210 and is provided with levelling-screws 212.
