Harvesting - machines. - Beak - shaped bars or lifters are attached to one or more fingers or guards of the cutter-bar, or to the divider board, in such a manner as to permit adjustment to different heights of crops, and more freely riding over any unevenness in the ground. The lower arm C, Fig. 1, of the lifter is pivoted at F to a shoe E which is bolted at O to the finger A and has an upright piece R forming a guide for the arm C. In the alternative form, a sheaf of dividing-arms is attached to the divider board V, Fig. 3, and the latter is provided with an' adjustably-attached plate Z having a guiding-loop b for the arm Y, which is pivoted to the board at c. A protecting casing d is secured to the board at e.
