Deflectable axle ends; brakes, arrangement and disposition of; controlling-apparatus, arrangernents of foot gear in conjunction with. - A brake for the steering- wheels of motor vehicles is actuated by oppositely-acting push-rods contained within t h e steering-pivots and acted upon by a centrallydisposed c a m. T w o pivot pins b<1> are formed or secured on each end of the axle a and are bored to receive two rods d, which are inclined to engage opposite sides of a cam c formed on the end of a spindle c<1>. The spindle c<1> is turned by a lever e, which is connected directly or through balance gear to a pedal. The rods d project centrally through the ends of the pivots b<1> and contact with segmental blocks g adapted to be expanded against a drum k connected to the wheel. The blocks g have sockets g<1> which can turn and slide on the pivots b', and the blocks are normally held inoperative by springs. Two blocks hinged at one end may be used instead of the two sliding blocks g. The swivelling axle i has two forks i<1>, which are clamped to bushes h by caps i<2>, i<3>, the steering-arm being connected to the upper or lower cap or to both. The bushes h turn upon the pivots b<1> and have projections fitting into the blocks g to ensure that the blocks turn with the wheel. Ball bearings may be substituted for the bushes h. A steel cover l encloses the parts on the inner side, and a screwed plug n may close the cam chamber.
