Operating-seats.-An operating-chair or the like comprises an horizontal table 1, to which are pivoted head and foot pieces 2, 4, the table being fixed to a frame 5, which is pivotally connected to the arms of bell-crank levers 7, 7<a> connected in pairs by links 9 and mounted on shafts supported by a framework 14. The levers 7 are operated so as to raise the table, by means of an oil pump actuated by a foot-lever 13 A valve 24 operated by a lever 26 and wire 25 allows liquid to run back into the reservoir 28 when the table is to be lowered. The head and foot sections are pivoted to the centre portion at 20, 21 and are connected by links 18, 19, so that, when one is raised, the other is lowered to a like extent. A quadrant 17 on the head-section 2 passes between eccentric brake rollers 30, 31, which may be drawn out of action by a lever 35 operating a wire 33. The quadrant 17 may also be formed with teeth engaged by pawls or tumblers. In a modification, the frame 14 is jointed and is itself raised by means of a hand - lever assisted by cushioning springs the parallelogram arrangement of the parts of the frame ensuring the horizontal position of the table. Additional movements may be provided for such as those adapting the table for use in the Trendelenburg position. In this case the pivot 21 is movable vertically by a pump supported on the framework 5 by slings and having its plunger attached to the pivot or spindle 21.
