Processes for reduction of grain.-In preparing malt for mashing, the malt is roughly ground, the husks are separated, and the remainder of the malt is finely ground and mixed with the husks. The malt, crushed by rolls 2, passes into a stationary cylindrical sieve 4 containing revolving beaters 5. The flour passes through the sieve, and the husks and granular particles are driven into a second sieve 7 of such a mesh as to allow the passage of the granular particles. The husks pass down a trunk 9 together with the flour from the sieve 4 to an outlet 11, and the granular particles fall between rolls 10, by which they are finely ground and from which they pass to the outlet 11.
