Abstract

14,302. Rees, E. June 18. Couplings, automatic, of the type in which a pivoted hook slides over and engages a fixed loop on the draw-bar. Figs. 2 and 4 show the hook C having a sloping face c<1> to engage the fixed loop B on the opposite vehicle. A tail c on the hook prevents it from falling below the horizontal position. Uncoupling is performed by a transverse shaft c carrying an arm F with a pivoted loop f. This also acts to keep the couplingsfrom becoming disengaged as shown by one set of dotted lines. A rack G enables the lever E to be set to any position. Fig. 4 shows an alternative form of uncoupling-mechanism, the principle being the same. Figs. 5 and 7 show a construction for the shackle B in which the eyes b<1> are let into recesses in the head B<2>. The shackle is maintained normally in an horizontal position but has a small amount of angular freedom.
