Abstract

14,290. Morse, F. L. June 27, 1908, [Convention date]. Joint pins.-In driving-chains of the open-link roller type in which the joint pins are in two or more parts which rock on each other, all the parts are extended through both the inside and outside link plates, thereby increasing the bearing area of all the parts and also the shearing strength of the complete pin. In the arrangement shown in Figs.], 2, and 3 the joint pin is in two parts, namely the seat pin 1 and rocker 2. The pin 1 is made with a substantially plane bearing-surface, and the rocker 2 is formed with a rounded bearing-surface. The apertures in the links are made so that the seat pins are held in the apertures of the outside links at each alternate joint, while the rockers are held in the outside plates at the other joints where the seat pins are held in the apertures of the inside plates. The pins 1 are shouldered at 9 at alterna'e joints for angular clearance in the apertures of the outside plates 4, and the rockers 2 are shouldered at 11 at the intermediate joints for the same purpose. The rivet pins 12 which hold the chain together may fit recesses in the seat pins and rockers for the purpose of holding the joint-pin parts in place. The rockers 2 may be notched at 10, Fig. 2, at each alternate joint, and both parts may be provided with shouldered projections to extend through openings in the washers 14. In Fig. 15, the joint pins are in three parts, namely two similar parts 18, 19 having convex bearing- surfaces facing each other, and a central pin member 20 having two oppositely facing concave bearing- surfaces. The part 20 has a shoulder extending through and riveted to an outside washer 22 for holding the chain together. In Fig. 24, the pin comprises two side parts 24, 25 having concave bearing-surfaces facing each other, and a central cylindrical pin 26. Specification 870/08, [Class 24, Chains &c.], is referred to.
