Abstract

14,200. Hall, E. L. July 11, 1908, [Convention date]. Purifiers.-Illuminating-gas is freed from carbon bisulphide and other difficultly removable sulphides by being subjected to a high temperature, whereby these but slightly reactive sulphides are converted into sulphuretted hydrogen, which is removed by ordinary methods. A suitable apparatus for carrying-out the process comprises two checkerwork chambers B, which are alternately heated by gas supplied from a generator A, and, when heated, are used to heat the gas to be purified. The gas, which has been purified from sulphuretted hydrogen, but which still contains sulphides, passes by a pipe 19 to the chamber B, and is there heated to preferably between 400‹ and 900‹ C., the less reactive sulphides being thus converted into the more reactive sulphuretted hydrogen. Steam may be introduced by a pipe 22 to facilitate the reactions. The gas passes away by a pipe 27 through a water-seal D to an ordinary purifier for removing the sulphuretted hydrogen thus formed. Two chambers B are provided, so that while one is in use the other can be heated. In the Specification in its original form, as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a), it is stated that the out-going gases from the chamber B are made to heat the entering gases by passing both through a recuperator. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
