Abstract

14,090. Kitchen, J. G. A. June 16. Cooking-stoves. - A cooking-apparatus, designed to be carried upon a military cart when in use, comprises one or more self - levelling cooking - boilers, with accessories for baking, grilling, &c., all heated by petroleum - vapour burners. The casing 6, Figs. 1 and 3, is hung on trunnions 6 in a frame 1, 2, and the cooking-boilers 32 are similarly hung transversely on trunnions 36, and are thus maintained vertical. The carrying-frame, Figs. 1 and 3, consists of two parts 1, 2, each part forming a bottom rail or runner and half of each end piece 3, at the apices of which latter are the trunnions 6 The casing 6 consists of stiffened asbestos-lined sheet-iron plates, and depends from a frame consisting of two longitudinal bars 7, 8 connected by transverse bars 9, 10, 11 and a staybolt 15. The burners 17 are mounted above guards or seatings 16 and behind doors 18 fitted in guides 19. At the sides of each of the burners are removable ovens 21 and grillers 23, each rendered accessible by doors 20, 22. The flames are guarded by vertical plates such as 25, 28, which extend from end to end and from side to side of the casing, and baffle the air entering by apertures 26, 27. The boilers 32 are shaped like a truncated wedge, as shown in Fig. 1, and the parts around the pivots 36 have cylindrical surfaces to prevent variation of the clearance spaces as the boilers oscillate. They have lids secured by cross-bars 34 and catches 35, in which holes 50 are made for the insertion of a pole by means of which the boilers may be carried. One end of the frame supports two oil tanks 38, from which the oil is forced by an air-pump 41, through pipes 39 to the burners 17. At the other end of the frame is a vegetable steamer 47 heated by a burner 46 in a perforated casing 45. When the boilers are removed, the top of the casing 6 is fitted with trays for frying &c. The grilling-apparatus consists of a grid 23, Fig. 6, between a bar 23 and an angleiron 23 ; this is fitted in a tray or pan 24, Fig. 5, the bar 23 resting on the bar 24 and the angle-iron 23 on the edge 24<c> of the pan. The trays 24 and the ovens 21 are supported in the stove on transverse angle-irons 29, 30.
