Vices.-Relates to parallel vices of the class in which a divided nut is engaged with the operating-screw when the work is to be gripped and disengaged therefrom when the movable jaw is being slid to or from the work in the vice. The half-nuts 2, 6 are connected together by rocking- levers 4, which are pivoted in depending lugs 3 of the upper half-nut 2, have rollers 17 bearing on stops 18 of the vice body, and abut at their inner ends on the boss 5 cast on the lower half-hut 6, this boss having a projection 7 with a notch 8 for one edge of the rocking bar 9. When this is turned by the trigger 10, the half-nuts are disengaged for rapid adjustment, after which the parts are returned to their normal position by a coil spring at the end of the rocking bar. Self-adjusting washers 22, one of which has a convex face, are provided between the forward ends of the nuts and a shoulder 21 of the base 20, so that an even pressure is exerted on the washers and nuts. The fixed jaw 25 of the vice is secured to the base 20 by staple-like devices 26 encircling curved portions 27, passing through the jaw and fixed by nuts.
