Impregnating-compositions. - Animal tissues or materials made therefrom, such as parchment or gut-strings of musical instruments, are treated, to increase their mechanical durability, with pyrogallol, hydroquinone, phenylhydrazine, a leuco base, or other reducing-agents which readily absorb oxygen from the air. For example, gut-strings are immersed in a solution of hydroquinone in alcohol and olive oil.
