Crushers with vibrating jaws.-The crushing- surfaces of machines for crushing stone, ore, &c., are formed of independent renewable single-tooth strips or units a, Figs. 2 and 3, which are secured to the frame d of the machine or swing stock, or to a holder c attached thereto, by forming the holder &c. with the upper or lower edge c<1> undercut or recessed to receive the tapered ends of the strips, in combination with a wedge - shaped plate or locking-member f with bolts g. The side units a<3> have recessed or shouldered portions for engagement with the holder &c. The units may be subdivided, one portion or cutting-edge a, Fig. 21, being made of hard metal, and another portion or root b of a softer or different metal. The units may be made in two lengths or sets, one set a<1>, Fig. 14, forming the lower portion, and the other set a<2>, the upper portion of the crushing-surface, separated from each other by a plain or toothed clamp i with bolts j. To prevent upward movement of the material introduced between the jaws, the teeth a, Fig. 23, may be made of inverted sawshaped form, and oppositely inclined in the two jaws. The strips may be arranged in vertical or horizontal rows, and a packing of soft metal may be placed behind them to take up the shock transmitted to the swing stock and machine frame.
