Abstract
8577. Bawtree, A. E., and Morris, E. R. April 8. Drawings to Specification. Cheques, drafts, coupons, &c. - To detect counterfeit cheques, bonds, or coupons, a lined groundwork is printed upon or in the paper, having in it letters or figures which are of the same. tint as the rest of the groundwork, but produced in lines at angles to the lines thereof, so that such letters are almost invisible in connexion with the groundwork, and absolutely invisible when printed over, but become visible when viewed through a lined screen in either a lighter or darker tone, according as the lines of the screen are parallel with the lines of the groundwork, or at an angle thereto. The groundwork may be printed in any colour, such as yellow, and viewed through a violet screen, or in any phosphorescent or fluorescent substance such as quinine sulphate, the letters appearing when viewed or photographed through the screen, or it may be watermarked or printed inside the paper. The colour screen may be printed on the paper and may require to be viewed in a special light.
