8335. Briede, O. Nov. 19, 1908. Forging bolts and rivets; shearing.-A rod-feeding mechanism for machines for making bolts, rivets, &c. of the type comprising a rough-feed mechanism for advancing the rod approximately to the desired length and a finefeed mechanism for effecting the exact adjustment, has adjustable means by which the rough-feed mechanism can be uncoupled from its driving-means, and also means for regulating the fine-feed while the machine is running. The rod E is fed forwards by means of the fixed adjustable jaw d and a movable jaw f<1>, which is oscillated to grip the rod by means of a link g and a spring catch o from a sliding rod m. The jaws are mounted on a sliding plate capable of reciprocation on the rods a, a catch being provided to disconnect the feeding-device if required. The fine-feed adjustment consists of an adjustable screw h on a sliding block k, which can be reciprocated by a pivoted lever s, the length of reciprocation being finely adjusted by a screw q which is mounted in the cross-head of the connecting-rod n, and can be adjusted when the machine is in motion. The rod is fed forwards until the lever g hits against the adjustable stop p, thus disconnecting the driving- means, and releasing the jaw f<1>. The block k then pushes the rod back to the desired position, and the blank is cut off by the cutters c and headed in the die.
