Abstract
8041. Willmann, J. May 25, 1908, [Convention date]. Sterilizing milk &c.- Milk is pasteurized by being heated to 140-152‹ F. while flowing, and then held at that temperature for a sufficient time, for example, a quarter to half an hour, the milk meantime flowing c o ntinuously. Suitable apparatus comprises a pasteurizer 3, a cooler 4, and a container 5. The milk flows from a reservoir 33 into a tray 25 and over the outside of the pasteurizer, which has a steamchamber 11, into a trough 26, from which it flows into a tank 28 having a float 36 for controlling the milk outlet 35 from the reservoir 33. The milk is then passed by a pump 43 through the inner chamber 20 of the pasteurizer, fitted with a stirrer 21, and flows through a pipe 46 into the container 5, which may comprise radial chambers filled in turn by a rotating spout 57 upon a shaft 58, which also carries a lever 63 for successively opening the outlets 62. The milk passes by a pipe 65 to a two-way valve 69, from which it flows, either direct by a pipe 76 or through a pipe 32 and heat-exchanging chamber 24 of the pasteurizer, to the cooler 4. The Specification in the original form, as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a), comprises also the pasteurization of cream and other albuminous liquids; this subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
