Abstract
7468. Brown, R. B. March 29. Producing fluctuations of pressure at spraying-nozzles. - In apparatus for distributing sewage &c. over filter-beds &c., consisting of perforated pipes with spray attachments, arrangements are made for varying the pressure of the discharge so that choking of the perforations or nozzles is prevented, and a more even distribution of the liquid is obtained. The liquid is passed from a receiving pipe A to a pipe G and sprayers H by means of a pipe F. The pipe G is provided preferably at its end with an upright pipe K and the liquid in the pipe G drives air through a check valve M and a pipe N to a dome C in the tank A. The dome rises and closes the inlet-valve B of the pipe F, to which it is connected by a lever D. When the liquid rising in the pipe K closes the valve M, the sudden stoppage increases the pressure at the nozzles H. This is diminished again when the liquid falls, in the pipe K and the valve M is opened. The air then returns from the dome, and the valve B is opened for a repetition of the cycle. Modifications are described in which the pipe N is omitted and the valve B is operated by a float in a standpipe rising from the pipe F or by a float in the tank A.
