Abstract

6306. Luellen, L. W. March 16. Moving - chamber apparatus; valve systems. - Coin-freed apparatus is adapted to deliver a drinking-cup containing a measured quantity of beverage by the single operation of a handle 60. A cylindrical drum 39 mounted in a casing 22, Fig. 4, carries the measuring - vessel comprising a lower bulbous portion 47, Fig. 13, having an aperture 43, which normally registers with a pipe 21 from the reservoir 20, and an upper conical portion 49 screwed into a cylindrical aperture 46, the material of the drum being cut away eccentrically on one side of the aperture, as shown at 45. After prepayment, the operator rotates the drum 39 by turning the handle 60 and disk 54, the port 43 first moving away from the pipe 21, cutting-off the supply from the reservoir, and, as the rotation continues, a ball 51, which is held up by the pressure of the liquid against an aperture in the vessel 49, gradually passes away from the aperture, allowing the beverage to pass into the cup which was drawn on to the conical vessel 49 at the previous operation of the machine. When the vessel Is completely reversed, the cup falls off on to a delivery support 32, and the rest of the liquid streams into it. On releasing the handle, the parts are returned to the normal position by a spring 61, and the lowest cup of the pile 26, which, during the above-described rotation rested on the edges of the end disks 40, 44 of the drum, falls through the cut-away portions 52, Fig. 4, of these edges on to the eccentric surface 45 and into engagement with grooves 53, Fig. 13, on the end disks, and is drawn down on to the conical portion 49 in readiness for the next operation. Stops 65 limit the rotation of the handle 60, and a projection on the disk 54 returns the drum 39 by engaging a projection on the disk 44. A following weight 28, Fig. 4, keeps the cups in position in the receptacle 24.
