Abstract

5933. Federolf, L. June 1, 1908, [Convention date]. Processes and materials for treating hides and skins.-Laces and sewing-thongs are made from leather tanned with the hair, the points only of the laces being free from hair to facilitate their being threaded. The hides from which the laces are manufactured are unhaired at the places that are to form the points of the laces, the hides being then tanned. They may, however, be tanned first and then unhaired at the required places. The parts of the hide adapted to form the points may not be tanned but only unhaired. The hide is suspended in the tanning-liquid in such a way that the ends from which the points are formed do not come in contact with the liquid, and so retain the properties of the raw hide. In chrome tanning in hot weather, the exposed parts are treated with antiseptic agents.
