5370. May, G. W. March 5. Screw propellers. - In the type of screw propeller in which several bosses are furnished with blades, the blades are so disposed in relation to one another as to throw the water leaving a blade through the o p e n i n g between two cons e c u t i v e blades and then over that portion of the boss which carries the next blade. The blades are mounted on two bosses b, e, and secured to the shaft by cotters and are situated in pairs at right-angles to each other. The pitch of each blade gradually increases from the root to the tip. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 3061/67, 17,046/88, and 16,407/92.
