Resistances.-The windings of an electric hotplate are unequally spaced and are held in position by distance-pieces of insulating-material so that the spacing can be adjusted to compensate for heatdisturbing factors. In the form shown, the hotplate a has parts c, d of greater thickness, and the windings adjacent to these parts are placed closer together than elsewhere. The winding, which may be of bare nickel wire with a coating of oxide, is of rectangular, square, or triangular section, and is clamped between mica sheets by a lower plate f secured in an air-light manner to the hot-plate a by screws.
