Abstract

4207. Ball, W. Feb. 20. Syringes.-The piston stem of an hypodermic syringe is screw-threaded and is arranged so as to give a screw or push feed as desired. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the screwthreaded piston-stem passes through a collar 3, rotatably seated in the rear end of the casing 5; the axis of the collar is .eccentric to that of the piston, and interrupted female threads 11 tapering on each side to points are cut on the bore of the collar. The collar may be partly rotated by means of a stud 7 projecting through a slot 6 in the casing, in order to throw the two threads into or out of engagement. In the construction shown in Fig. 5, the casing is formed with interrupted threads 14, and the threads 15 of the piston-stem are also interrupted so as to form a longitudinal recess 16 in the stem; partial rotation of the casing or piston brings the threads into or out of engagement as desired. The piston-head may be calibrated, or of lozenge shape, to indicate the revolutions.
