Abstract

2733. Spagnoletti, J. E. Feb. 4. Automatic circuit-breakers.- An automatic circuit-breaker, intended to replace the ordinary fusible cut-out, comprises a movable member 10, composed of insulating-material, which is held in the closed position, with its contacts 12, 13, which are connected by fuse wire 14, engaging contacts 8, 9 upon the fixed member, by pivoted catch 5, forming the armature of an overload magnet 3. The movable member 10 is shown pivoted to the terminal contact 9 by means of a pin 30, Fig. 5, upon the blade 13, engaging with slots in the inturned end of the contact-clip 9 ; the back of this member is engaged by a roller 19<a> upon a pivoted lever, the heavy handle 23 of which projects outside the casing so that the switch may be closed by hand. By its position the handle indicates whether the switch is closed or open. The overload magnet 3, which is held to the base by its yoke 4, has a core 26 screwed into the yoke and adjustable so that the latch 5 will be raised at predetermined overloads indicated by a pointer attached to the core ; when the latch is raised, a spring 24 opens the switch which may be closed again, only if the overload is removed. The fuse 14 is arranged to break the circuit only if the electro-magnetic device fails to act.
