Abstract

Feeding webs.-In coin-freed apparatus for postage stamps &c., the strip is led from a storage roll C in a case B along a trough E beneath a loose roller H to delivery rollers F, G, of which the roller G is mounted on a spring-controlled lever I. In an alternative form, the rollers F, G are connected by endless tapes to two similar, but smaller, rollers, the stamp strip passing between the tapes. A ratchet-wheel W on the spindle V of the roller F is rotated one tooth by a pawl Z on a frame T to feed the strip forward the space of a stamp at each operation of a handle, the handle and frame being carried by a loose sleeve X. The rotation of the ratchet-wheel W is controlled by a spring detent P<16>; stops B<2>, E<5> limit the movement of the frame T. A ball L resting in a stirrup U<2> and supported on the stamp strip, falls through an aperture V<2> on to a lever O if the stamp strip breaks or fails. The lever O, through a link P, withdraws a catch Q from an arm R on a slide U, which then closes the coin slot under the action of a spring.
