Coating bakers' and confectioners' goods.-A machine for coating biscuits &c. comprises a drum 1 dipping into an icing-tank 2, and carrying a number of endless threads 3, which pass over a grooved roller 19 and over a series of grooved wheels 4. The biscuits are placed on a table 6 and pushed by a slide 7 on to an adjustable table 8, from which they are pushed on to the drum 1 by a slide 12. The coated biscuits are carried by the threads 3 to a rake 24, which revolves through 180 degrees on a spindle 25 and transfers the biscuits with their coated sides upwards to a conveyer 32. To ensure effective coating of the biscuits, a small reservoir for the icing &c. is formed between the surface of the drum 1 and the bevelled end of an adjustable inclined board 17. In a modification the biscuits are fed directly on to the drum, and one or more small drums placed below the threads and in contact with the drum 1 impart additional icing to the biscuits. In another form a continuous band passes round the drum 1 and a roller, and is fed with icing by another drum dipping in the icing; the threads 3 pass over this band and carry the coated biscuits to the discharging- rake. In another form, a small band is placed below the threads and in contact with the drum, and moves in the same direction as the biscuits, to which it imparts additional icing; the biscuits are detached from the band by an oscillating rake which lifts them and lowers them on to the threads. In another form, a small endless band placed below the threads and in contact with the drum 1 travels more slowly than the drum or threads and imparts additional icing to the biscuits by a rubbing action.
