Abstract

994. Napier & Son, D., and Clark, H. C. Jan. 14. Joints. - Relates to steering and like rods for motor road vehicles, and consists in means for adjusting for wear of the end bearings whether cylindrical or spherical. The righthand part of Fig. 2 shows an application to spherical joints, and the left-hand part to plain bearings. The bearing-brasses B, C, are made with a gap between them to allow for adjustment. A strap D has its inner end ring-shaped and is screwed with a fairly coarse thread D<2>. Movement about the rod is prevented by a pin D<3>, which slides in a longitudinal slot A<2> in the rod A. Adjustment is made by a union nut F, which screws on the rod A by a fine thread A', the difference between the threads supplying the longitudinal movement. The union nut is secured from turning by a split pin which passes through a pair of diametrically opposite holes A<3>, of which there are several pairs round the rod. The holes A<3> are elongated longitudinally to permit the adjustment to be made.
