Abstract

26,935. Forbes, O. V. Dec. 11. [Patent of Addition to No. 26,704, A.D. 1907.] Heels; presses.- Relates to the manufacture of the detachable heels described in Specification No. 26,704, A.D. 1907. According to the present invention, the lifts composing the heel are made of leather, leather and wood, or creosoted leather-board, &c., and of the same substance, density, and thickness throughout, thus ensuring the same coefficient of expansion and contraction for variations of moisture, temperature, &c. The heel is built up and compressed or nailed, or compressed and nailed, in a mould constructed as shown in Figs. 5, 6, and 7, and while in the mould the edges are subjected to a suitable hardening-process. The mould consists of a base-plate e having an aperture e<1> of the contour of the heel, and a hardsteel templet f fitting within this aperture, the templet being shaped to accommodate the T-shaped or like protuberances of the heel. The lifts are thus compressed equally in the mould, and are thereby prevented from splaying out laterally. When the heel is made of a combination of leather and wood, the fixed part is preferably made of wood, and the removable part of leather ; but the top-piece or wearing-portion only may be made of leather, and the remainder of the removable part of wood.
