Abstract

26,789. Goodrich, E. W. Dec. 10. Magic-lanterns.-In apparatus adapted for the projection of both transparent and opaque objects, the objective for opaque work is arranged vertically, and a slidable mirror is adapted to reflect light through a horizontally-arranged objective when transparencies are to be projected. A lantern 3 has an arc light 4, the light from which passing through a condenser 8 falls on an inclined mirror 10 and is reflected into a horizontally-disposed objective 6 which is removably attached to the lantern by hooks 92. When it is desired to change from transparent to opaque work, the object is placed in a guiding-frame 107 sustained by an adjustable table 22. The mirror 10, which is mounted on guides 18 and is provided with a U-shaped handle 19, is pushed forwards to allow the light to fall on the object ; the light is radiated thence through a vertically-disposed objective 11 and is reflected by an adjustable mirror 12 on to the screen. The condenser 8 is held by clips 31 in a holder 32 which is inserted by a handle 33 in an opening in the lantern and may be readily removed in the event of the lens becoming broken. The milled heads 53, 55, for adjusting the carbons simultaneously or independently, are arranged on the same side of the lantern as the handle 19 for adjusting the mirror.
