Abstract

22,940. Neal, H. A., and Smitb, A. Pye-. Oct. 28. Safety - valves.- A safety-valve for a rotary blower comprises a cap D<2>, sliding on a fixed hollow stem D<1>. The holes D<3> in the cap are arranged in a spiral so that the escape orifice increases as the cap lifts under pressure. The weights or spring for loading the valve act on the stem D<6>. To prevent shocks, the lower part of the cap D<2> is immersed in oil, and grooves D<4> and holes D<5> are provided to carry the oil to the stem D<1>. In a modification, the oil is contained in a cup surrounding and formed in one with the stem D<1>, The dash-pot effect may be varied by using oil of different viscosity. The valve need not be arranged vertically.
