Abstract

22,377. Pollet, G. F. O. Oct. 21. Motor road vehicles. - Electric driving - gear, particularly suitable for motor road vehicles, but applicable to other purposes, is so arranged that the power and speed of the prime mover is regulated according to the current required by the motor. The prime mover M', Fig. 2, is coupled to the rotor I, Fig. 1, on which is mounted, so as to be capable of rotation, the casing L carrying the field-magnets B. The rotor I and the casing L are connected through the epicyclic gear H, M, K, the casing N of which is provided with a brake X. A brake F is likewise fitted to the generator casing L, and the two brakes are fitted with right and left handed screw operating-devices, shown in Fig. 2, such that when one brake is on the other will be off, and vice versa. These brakes are controlled by the solenoid device A placed in the shunt field of the motor energized by the generator I. A centrifugal governor O mounted on an extension t of the gear casing N controls the prime mover, for instance the internal-combustion motor M', through the lever d and the rod shown in Fig. 1. On starting, the operator regulates the current to the field-magnets B with the resistance H; he then engages the clutch through the pedal Y, which at the same time operates a resistance R for the motor energized by the generator. If a small current is passing, the cores T are withdrawn under the action of the springs which control them, and as a result the gear casing N is fixed and, as long as the governor 0 is not operating, the generator casing L is driven in the opposite direction to that in which the rotor I revolves. If however the current demand increases, the resistances H, R having been reduced, the cores T are drawn inwards, the casing L is held stationary, and the gear casing N is allowed to revolve ; the governor O can then come into action.
