Abstract

22,103. Hosmer, A. Oct. 17, 1907, [date applied for under Section 91 of Patents &c. Act, 1907]. Crossings.-Built-up crossings for railways are constructed from rails having longitudinal ribs on their opposite sides for engaging the web portion of reinforcing and guard rails, and basal flanges adapted to extend under and support the same. Fig. 1 shows a plan and Fig. 2 a sectional view of a crossing in which one set of rails 4 are continuous and the other set 8 formed in sections which are cut at their ends to engage the continuous rails as shown in Fig. 3. The track rails 4, 8, reinforcing- rails 7, and guard rails 9 are secured together by angle-pieces 10 and bolts 11. In a modified construction, shown in Fig. 7, both sets of rails are continuous, one set being notched underneath and the other on the top so as to fit together. The rails are further locked together by angle-pieces of channel section, which take the place of the reinforcing and guard rails in the previous construction.
