Abstract

21,481. Fessenden, R.. A. Oct. 31, 1907, [date applied for under Section 91 of Patents &c. Act, 1907]. Armatures ; dynamos, alternating- current ; motors, alternating-current, rotary converters and transformers.- In order to drive a shaft at high velocities without causing vibration there is mounted upon the shaft ar armature consisting of a simple disk surrounded by a field structure having a winding supplied with high-frequency two-phase current. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, in which the high-speed motor is employed to drive a high-frequency alternator, the field 12, 13 of the motor is excited from the two phase dynamo 11 with current of frequency 500 cycles per second, and in this field rotates the armature 14, consisting of a single disk of phosphor-bronze or nickel-steel. The disk is slotted around its circumference, and the slots are filled with pieces of soft sheet iron in order to complete the magnetic circuit 17 of the high-frequency alternator, which has a magnetizing-coil 18 and armatures 15, 16 in proximity to the circumference of the slotted disk. Specification No. 16,382, A.D. 1899, is referred to.
