Pottery.-Earthenware pipes are formed with an unglazed surface on the interior of the socket and exterior of the spigot by an adhering film of a refractory material capable of resisting salt glaze. Plaster of paris, which has been set and reground with water to a creamy consistency, may be applied with a brush, or dry powdered plaster of paris may be applied by an air blast if the pipes are in a damp or plastic state.
