Abstract

19,592. McDonald, E. D. Sept. 17. Spikes; spikes, sockets for.-Spikes for securing rails to concrete railway sleepers are made with round necks 26 and square shanks 21. They are driven into tubular sockets 20 of slightly larger internal diameter. These sockets pass right through the sleeper, and their ends are expanded into countersunk holes in rail seats 18. The spike heads are adapted to fit the rail flange in any position.
